Guwahati News Desk: Good news for the travel-loving people as the Meghalaya government has announced that it will restart its tourism from September 1.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma on Thursday as the full vaccinated tourists will be allowed to visit the State from September 1.

The State officials also announced that the non-vaccinated or vaccinated with single-dose people have to produce mandatory COVID-19 negative report at the entry point of Meghalaya only if they have tested with 72 hours before arrival.

On the other hand, local tourists of Meghalaya who is completely vaccinated or with single dose can visit any location across the State for tourism purpose, added Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

The tourism to resume after at least 4 months as the travel was immediately banned due to rising COVID-19 cases in the State and across the northeastern region.

Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma tweeted, “#Meghalaya will restart its tourism from 1st September 2021 with the following protocols: Fully vaccinated tourists will be allowed to visit Meghalaya for tourism-related purposes from 1st September 2021. Tourists who are unvaccinated or vaccinated with a single dose will have to produce a negative RTPCR/TrueNat/CBNAAT report valid only if they have tested within 72 Hrs prior to their arrival at the entry point. Local tourists from within the State that are fully vaccinated/vaccinated with a single dose will be allowed to visit any location in Meghalaya for tourism purposes.”

In Meghalaya, the government has decided to re-open the schools and colleges from September 1. Schools from Class 9 to 12 will be reopened in both rural and urban areas and online classes to continue for students of Class 1 to 5 and the students of Class 6 to 8 have been concerned.

Meghalaya is the most popular destination and many tourists from Assam are always witness in the State across the year.
