Guwahati News Desk: In a tragic incident a man, identified as Jama was trampled to death by an elephant near Bhima Sankar Temple at Basistha area in Guwahati City.

Earlier, a couple of wild elephants were reportedly seen eating from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) dustbin at the Satgaon area on June 25. The herd has come from the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food, the encounter has created a panic situation among the residents of the Satgaon area.

Due to the rise in construction on the forest lands and the setting up of new roads, the wild animals that were living in and around Guwahati are losing their living spaces.

In another incident, the local people of the Pandu area in Maligaon witnessed a leopard, freely roaming in the Pandu-Kamakhya route.

However, on Thursday, an adult leopard was seen at Madhab Nagar near Guwahati trapped in a 20 feet open well. Later, some forest officials rescued the animal soon after the villagers informed the forest department. The roar of the adult leopard echoed from the deep open well and frightened the localities.

It was said that the leopard came out in search of food and later it was rescued and released into the wild forest.

On Wednesday, another person named Usharam Rongi was killed by a wild elephant at Dokmoka village in Karbi Anglong

One more person was killed earlier at Jagun in the Tinsukia district near Kathachema Ghat in Burhidihing river when an elephant came out from the protected forest area and killed the man near his home who was identified as Louis Orang.

Recently, a woman and her 8-year-old child were also killed by an elephant at the Bagidhala Tea garden in Numaligarh. The deceased were identified as Rita Tanti and Rupam Tanti.

On June 10, a 10-year-old boy was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Bokakhat in Golaghat district in the forest area near Mikirchang Bagicha village. The boy was identified as Dip Rawtia, son of Samara Rawtia of Mikirchang tea garden.

The conflict between man and elephant has suddenly increased across the State due to human habitation as animals are losing their personal space and fall short of food too.
