Guwahati News Desk: On Wednesday 24 November, the Assam Cabinet made a decision that from now onwards only people who are residents of the state Assam will be permitted to appear for the exams of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) and Assam Civil Service (ACS). The cabinet also made other major decisions including the dissolving of the language paper from the exams to make the selection process easier. The cabinet informed about three conditions that are made for candidates to appear in the state exams of APSC and ACS.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that earlier knowing Assamese was compulsory for the candidates to appear in the APSC and ACS exams but this seems to create issues for the students of Assam who had come from the English medium. Therefore the state cabinet has taken the decision to withdraw the language paper for the test conducted for APSC and ACS. CM Sarma further informed that though the language paper has been removed from APSC and ACS but the candidates must have the ability to speak Assamese or any other language of the state such as Bodo, Mising or Tiwa.

He added that registration of the candidates in the Assam employment exchange is now made compulsory. The new cabinet decision restricts foreigners residing inside or outside the state to appear in the test of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) and Assam Civil Service (ACS). A Youth Commission will be established by the Government of Assam for the training of the talented youths of Assam in joining the national level course as announced by the chief minister.

He said that medical and engineering students of the state are seen with low enrollment in national-level courses therefore this Youth Commission will choose 100 youth from each district and will be trained for such national-level courses. These selected students will impart training from the best institutes and best educationists. The CM concluded by saying that the government wants that the commission prepares at least 1 lakh students from Assam in the next 5 years.
