Guwahati News Desk: India took its medal tally to 7 at the end of Monday morning session at Tokyo Paralympics.

Within a span of little over an hour, India won as many as five medals, on Monday.

The medals included of two gold, two silver and a bronze, which took the overall tally to 7 medals on Day 6 of the showpiece event.

The list of Monday’s victories began with Avani Lekhara winning a historic gold medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 final. The 19-year-old became the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic gold medal in the country’s history.

Her victory was shortly followed by Yogesth Kathuniya winning a silver medal, in the Men’s Discus F56 event. The 24-year-old, sent the disc to a best distance of 44.38m in his sixth and last attempt to clinch the silver.

The legendary Devendra Jhajharia then went on to win a silver medal in Men’s Javelin F46 event.

Javelin thrower Sumit Antil then shattered the men’s F64 category world record multiple times in a stunning Games debut performance on Monday, adding the second gold in India’s tally.

The 25-year-old Sundar Singh Gurjar also chipped in with a bronze, finishing behind Jhajharia in the men’s javelin throw F46 final. He came third with a best effort of 64.01m.

The achievements prior to Monday included of, Bhavinaben Patel becoming the only second Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympics after she signed off with a historic silver following a 0-3 loss to world number one Chinese paddler Ying Zhou, in the women’s singles table tennis class 4 final in Tokyo.

The 21-year-old high jumper Nishad Kumar clinched a silver with an Asian record on Sunday, by clearing a 2.06m to win the silver in T47 class.

Thus, India is super proud of them and is grateful towards their hard work and efforts, that shall further encourage numerous other Indians to strive for the same.
