Guwahati News Desk: Guwahati Municipal Corporation has imposed a penalty of Rs 44000 for selling plastics less than 50 microns at the Fancy Bazar market in Guwahati on Thursday.
The authorities of GMC also seized all plastic materials weighing 52 kgs.
The Central Government earlier has issued a notification in its Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, which had banned the usage and manufacturing of single-use plastic which is thinner and less than 50 microns.
A strict operation is going on by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation authorities regarding the ban and use of single-use plastic in the city. However, such plastic bags are openly used by the vendors in the city.
