Guwahati News Desk: To show support towards the protesting farmers, former Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday, drove a tractor to the Parliament and reiterated his demand of withdrawing the three new farm laws.
Rahul along with several party members drove the tractor, which had a big board on the front, where it was written in Hindi, “Take back the three anti-farmer laws.”
Emphasizing on the repeal of the black laws, Rahul stated, “These laws are aimed at helping only two-three industrialists. The entire country knows for who and whom these laws have been brought about. These laws are not for the benefit of farmers and that is why they have to be withdrawn.”
Besides extending support to the farmers in their fight against the farm laws, the tractor ride to Parliament was aimed at highlighting the cause of the farmers’ unions that have been protesting just outside Delhi borders over eight months now. Regarding which Rahul stated, “I have brought farmers’ message to Parliament. They (Government) are suppressing voices of farmers and not letting a discussion take place in Parliament.”
According to sources, Rahul drove the tractor from Motilal Nehru Marg to Parliament via Red Cross road.
Amidst the tractor rally, the Delhi Police detained Congress spokesperson, Randeep Singh Surjewala and Youth Congress national President, Srinivas B.V. along with scores of party workers, who were taken to the Mandir Marg police station in Central Delhi. However, after being detained, Surjewala informed the media that they were not afraid of getting arrested and the protest over the three farm laws will continue.
Meanwhile, thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh have been protesting against the three farm laws since 26th November of last year, and have been demanding the withdrawal of these farm laws and ensuring MSP to their produce.
