Guwahati News Desk: A statue of Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah was destroyed by the Baloch militants in a bomb attack on Sunday morning.

The blast occurred in the coastal city of Gwadar, i.e. in the troubled Balochistan province.

As per the sources, the statue, which was installed in June at Marine Drive, and was considered a safe zone, was completely destroyed in the blast, done by explosives placed beneath the statue.

As informed by the Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Major (retd.) Abdul Kabir Khan, the matter was being investigated at the highest level. He added that the militants who destroyed Jinnah’s statue by planting explosives entered the area as tourists.

In addition, Balochistan’s former Home Minister and current Senator, Sarfraz Bugti, tweeted about the event, “The demolition of Quaid-e-Azam’s statue in #Gwadar is an attack on Ideology of Pakistan. I request authorities to punish the perpetrators in the same way as we did with those behind the attack on Quaid-e-Azam residency in Ziarat.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the banned militant organization Baloch Republican Army, Babgar Baloch, claimed responsibility for the blast on Twitter.

Regarding Jinnah, he was born on December 25th, 1876. He served as the leader of the All-India Muslim League from 1913 until Pakistan’s creation on August 14, 1947. He then served as Pakistan’s first governor-general until his death in 1948.

Moreover, Balochistan has been witnessing a spate of low-level violence for years, that has been continuing till this date.
