Guwahati News Desk: The city police, on Friday, busted a fake job racket and arrested three conmen including the mastermind of the racket. Police said that the mastermind of the racket identified as Troilukya Saikia with the help of his associates had collected a substantial amount of money from over hundred candidates on the pretext of offering them government jobs.
The candidates were promised jobs in various government departments in exchange of Rs 3 lakh per candidate. On Friday, the accused had called the candidates to Hotel Parshuram located in the Gorchuk area of the city for a supposed recruitment process when the police caught him red-handed along with two of his associates. During the raid there were 42 candidates present at the hotel.
Joint Commissioner of police, Guwahati, Partha Sarathi Mahanta said, “We received information from a very reliable source that a racket has been collecting money from candidates through unfair means promising them government jobs. They tried to convince the candidates that it was a genuine process. Today, they had called several candidates to the hotel. They had booked two halls for enacting a drama of recruitment. We caught them red-handed. A person identified as Troilukya Saikia is the kingpin of this racket. He was arrested along with two of his associates.”
Describing the modus-operandi of the racket, Mahanta added, “The accused by impersonating as government official had collected money from over 100 candidates. An amount of Rs 3 lakh were charged from each candidate. Several candidates had given advance money ranging from Rs 20,00 to Rs 2.5 lakh. The accused had even provided fake appointment letters to the candidates. Even fake service sheets and fake order copies were made. The accused is not a government employee as he had claimed. He is a criminal. We are investigating if any more person were involved in the racket.”
