Guwahati News Desk: On Saturday, the counting of votes for Uttar Pradesh block Panchayat was conducted and the voting procedure began from 11 AM and continued to 3 PM.
In total, votes were polled for the 476 posts of block panchayat chiefs in UP and as per the updates, BJP has won all seats of the 8 blocks in Lucknow and Kannauj.
However tensions did emerge, like, in the Deoband block after the Samajwadi Party (SP) leader, Kartik Rana, accused the administration of rigging the vote counting and some SP workers began a protest, for which the police had to resort to lathi-charge to control the situation.
Regarding the results, the saffron party achieved victory of six out of eight seats in Moradabad and three seats in Bhadohi out of the six seats.
BJP won 15 seats out of 19 in Sitapur and three seats were won by SP.
BJP further won 14 seats out of 19 blocks in Hardoi, while SP won only one seat and independent candidates won three seats each.
The saffron party won unopposed in 14 seats of Agra.
Hence, out of 650 seats declared so far, more than 550 have been won by the BJP. And out of 550, around 335 were won unopposed. SP has won 71 bLocks while 80 other seats were won by other parties and independent candidates so far.
According to reports, in some districts, the people got to witness post poll violence in Etawah where a police officer was slapped over alleged bias given to BJP’s candidates.
However, despite the allegations of misuse of government machinery and violence, the counting of votes continued.
State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was seen directing the officials regarding tight security arrangements to be made on each block where counting was taking place.
Infact Adityanath had also said that there should be a system in place wherein the winning and losing candidates could be escorted to their homes under police protection.
