Guwahati News Desk: Vice-Chancellor of leading distance institution of Assam the Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU) Kandarpa Das has been suspended with immediate effect by the Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi on Friday.
According to the sources, Professor Kandarpa Das was suspended for his alleged involvement in the scam of the Institute Distance and Open Leaning (IDOL) of Gauhati University from 2006 to 2016 when he served as the Director.
Professor Das was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the KKHSOU in March, 2020.
A commission was set up to probe the IDOL scam where the commission called for action against the Vice-Chancellors, Registrars and Directors of IDOL of that period.
The report said, eight courses under Post Graduate programmes, eight under the PG Diploma programmes, four Undergraduate programmes, one Diploma programme and two certificate programmes were unapproved by IDOL during the year between 2010 and 2017.
Students who have completed their courses in between the mentioned years the degrees, diploma and other courses have not approved.
