Guwahati News Desk: At least 18 elephants killed in a massive lighting that struck the forest area of Nagaon district in Assam on Wednesday night.
The incident took place at the hills in the Kundoli proposed reverse forest in the Kathiatoli range.
According to the sources, the forest officials could not be present in the spot immediately instead reached by Thursday afternoon.
During the investigation by the forest officials, the elephants were killed after massive electrocution caused by lighting. It was also notified by the officials that the exact reason will be known only after post-mortem by Friday.
Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took a stock of the death of the jumbos and expressed deep concern.
CM Sarma directed the Forest and Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya to visit the site where the incident took place and put a deep inquire and report to the Chief Ministers with the finding of enquiry report.
