Guwahati News Desk: The government of Assam to construct an elevated corridor at the National Highway 37 of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve from Jakhalabandha to Bokakhat.
Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the proposed elevated corridor in the NH 37 as the meeting was held between the officials of the Environment and Forest Department and PWD (Building and NH) Departments.
According to the sources, the proposal was prepared by PWD (Building and NH) Department as the length of the corridor to cover a distance of around 35 km. The proposed corridor will reduce the accident of the animals on the national highway as mostly during the monsoon season many animals came off the highway due to heavy floods that occurred in the Kaziranga National Park. Currently, the administration reduces the speed limit of the vehicles on the road to avoid animal killings by accident which also leads to traffic in the area.
The 35 km corridor will help to boost wildlife preservation and tourism promotion at the national park.
During the review meeting, CM Sarma approves the alignment of the corridor and also directed the PWD officials to take all necessary measures to execute the project as it is listed among the biggest projects in Assam.
During the meeting, CM Sarma also directed the Environment and Forest Department to take immediate steps to set up new zoos at Dibrugarh and Cachar districts as a nodal officer will be appointed who will monitor the complete set up of the zoo for early implementation.
