Guwahati News Desk: After completing a long journey of 25 years, the American car manufacturing company, Ford, finally winds down its operations in India.
Despite of being one of the first foreign car manufacturers to arrive in India, Ford ultimately failed to make its mark in the country.
Moreover, it was in the last month (September), when Ford had announced that it will be putting an end to all of its manufacturing activities in India.
Supporting the news, Ford India head, Anurag Mehrotra released a statement last month, that read, “Despite (our) efforts, we have not been able to find a sustainable path forward to long-term profitability.”
However, as announced by the company, the sales of the Ford cars will continue until the dealerships have the stock, and Ford will still be active as a niche player in the Indian automobile market with imported products like Mustang, Mach-E and Ranger Pick Up Truck.
Meanwhile, with last of the available/stocked parts coming to an end, the production also came to an end at the Sanand plant. As a result of which, the company’s last car was rolled out from the Ford India plant in Sanand, Gujarat.
As per the images that have circulated on social media, during the final roll out of the very last car from the Sanand manufacturing plant, the saddening emotions of the workers witnessing the act were clearly visible.
Furthermore, Ford has now joined the list of other carmakers who had to exit India after suffering huge losses. This includes the names like – Fiat, General Motors, (Chevrolet), Man Trucks, etc.
