Guwahati News Desk: Indian Navy on Thursday launched its fifth Scorpene class submarine at Mumbai’s Mazagon Dock.
The submarine was launched by Union Minister of State for Defence, Shripad Naik via video conferencing.
Vagir is Indian built and a part of the six Kalvari-class submarines fully designed by French naval defence and energy company DCNS. It is built as a part of Indian Navy’s Project-75.
Vice Admiral R B Pandit, Western Naval Command Chief on the occasion said that two Kalvari-class submarines are already operational in the Navy. And he expects Vagir to be commissioned within a year.
Anti- surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, mine laying, and area surveillance are the missions that these submarines can undertake.
