Guwahati News Desk: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has carried out a massive eviction drive at SS Road in Fancy Bazar on Thursday.
The massive drive was conducted to eliminate the number of vendors and hawkers who were allegedly holding the area is designated as‘No Vending Zone’ under the Street Vendors Act 2014.
The eviction drive was conducted from Goenka Point near Sikh Temple to MG Road near the LIC Office at SS Road in Fancy Bazar in Guwahati.
The eviction drive was conducted to reduce the traffic in the SS Road as the GMC has decided to shift the vendors and hawkers from SS Road to the Mezzanine Floor of the GMC building at Fancy Bazar which will reduce the ongoing traffic in the area.
The GMC has tweeted, “An eviction drive was conducted by the Enforcement Branch of GMC in cooperation with Assam Police at S.S Road as the specific area has been mentioned as No Vending Zone. Alternative accommodation of bonafide members has been arranged.”
GMC will not permit any vendors and hawkers to carry out vending in the ‘No Vending Zone’.
