Guwahati News Desk: Several bighas of paddy farming land were flooded with toxic crude oil after a leakage found in the ONGC pipeline at Nazira in Sivasagar district on Thursday.
According to the sources, the continuous leaks was resulted from crude oil and expanded through the cultivation lands and damaging it. The incident took place near the Borpothar area in Nazira.
Soon after the incident reported, the ONGC experts immediately rushed on the spot to take a stock of the incident. The reason of the leakage in the site is yet not known, however operation for fixing down the problem has already been started.
A panic situation took place among the nearby people of the Borpothar area as it will affect the cultivation of land and bring a huge problem for the farmers. ONGC experts have been deployed on the site to control the situation and to stop the leakage.
Last year, a similar incident took place when a gas blowout was reported in the Baghjan Oil field which belongs to Oil India Limited in Tinsukia it took more than 3 months to fix it which later known it massively affected the biodiversity in the region.
