Guwahati News Desk: The dispute over Hindi being India’s national language has been revived by an online dialogue between two Indian actors from different film companies. Bollywood star Ajay Devgn tweeted at Kannada actress Kichcha Sudeepa, “Hindi will always remain India’s native tongue and national language.” People in southern India, where the language is hardly spoken, have reacted angrily to the remark. One of India’s 22 official languages is Hindi. However, the language has been the subject of heated debate since Home Minister Amit Shah introduced it as an alternative to English earlier this month.
While Hindi is widely spoken in India’s northern heartland, states in the country’s eastern and southern regions speak a diversity of languages. Sudeepa, who works in the southern film business, remarked at a recent event that Hindi was no longer “a national language” because of the recent pan-India success of films from the region. Since theatres reopened this year, films in southern Indian languages such as KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, and Pushpa have been tremendous successes. This is remarkable because Bollywood’s Hindi-language films normally dominate the Indian box office.
“Today, we’re making films that are seen all over the world,” Sudeepa added, adding that Bollywood films were among the most popular.
RGV, Sonu Sood, Chiranjeevi, and Manoj Bajpayee have all expressed their opinions on the ongoing controversy.
It’s showing that Ajay Devgan chose violence when he awoke.
